A sociopath (as distinct from a psychopath)  is a person whose behavior is antisocial.   He lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.

The Brain researchers tell us that about one percent of Americans are psychopaths.    That means that 3,000,000 American are psychopaths.   [One percent of 300,000,000 people = 3,000,000]  

Psychopathic behavior is overwhelmingly a male attribute.   Here are some of the characteristics of a psychopath:

They have a dramatically reduced or zero capacity for empathy. 

They lack conscience.  Lack any sense of guilt 

They are self-centered

Highly skillful at deception

Lack of intimacy

Abusive treatment of animals and other people

Destruction is simply a path to success. 

They tend to have good at executive functions.   

They have good planning ability.   

They have the ability to regulate and control.  

They have a well developed sense of self.  

They do well under stress. 

Now just take a moment and think about where you'd likely find people with these characterizes.   Have you got it yet?   Other than in jails, in organized crime families, in drug cartels, and the like, the most obvious answer is corporate executives, religious hardliners, and politicians.   What does that mean?   It means that many of the world's power positions are presently held by white-color sociopaths or psychopaths.  

If you think we're exaggerating, take a moment to look at the tobacco industry.  Do you think for even a minute that the tobacco industry is run by nice guys?  

How can we know a psychopath?   Three obvious way are:   by what they produce,   by the company they keep, and by their behavior.     Given the means, motive, and opportunity, what you see a sociopath or a psychopath doing to someone else, they'll sooner or later being doing the same thing to you.

Are you aware of the results of a recent study about employee pay.   The study concluded that nice guys finish last.   Stepping on others and being a bastard is a ticket to making more money.   Stepping on others and being a bastard is also classic sociopathic and psychopathic behavior.     

Their is no  way to "fix" them.  Government regulations cannot control them.   Confronting them directly is counterproductive (because fighting something empowers it).   The solution is to take them out of power positions.  

This too, is done by indirection.  The corporate/foundation partnership business format provides a setting where those in management power positions are denied secrecy and unbridled power -- where problems can be discovered long before they reach the crisis stage.
