. High-Stakes Gambling is a form of gambling where the possible winnings and the potential losses are very large. It's commonly related to two additional addictions: 1) the addiction to Money & Profits and 2) the addiction to The Thrill of Experiencing Physical Danger. Gambling, in and of itself can become a highly destructive addiction. When you combine a gambling addiction with an Addiction to Money & Profits with the addiction to the thrill of danger and then allow the addict to be in charge of a multi-billion dollar corporation with zero supervision and zero oversight you are only a short stroll down the road from financial disaster. A classic and well-documented example of this comes to us from the Enron Financial Scandal and an examination of its former CEO Jeffrey Skilling. Skilling was a triple addict.

. As you probably already know fear and excitement are very closely related. There are numerous situations where one person will feel scared and draw away from something while another person will feel excited and be drawn toward that same experience. For example, how many of you run toward fires or toward the sound of gun shots? How many of you would be excited to jump out of and airplane flying at 5,000 feet. How many of you would consider jumping of a high cliff and parachuting to the valley floor below? I have not even the slightest urge to encounter any of these activates. I consider them to be foolish and dangerous, and yet millions of other feel quite the opposite. Physiologically, there's a powerful adrenaline rush that accompanies danger. That internal feeling can become a source of addiction. . |

. There is still another psychological mind-controlling factor that can overpower a person's rational, reasonable, logical mind and produce bizarre behavior. This factor shows itself most profoundly as the religious extremism that produces violence in the name of God. On the other side of this same coin is Ego-atheism, which when taken to the extreme, can also produces bizarre behavior.
